Area informationAyr is a superb base for touring the south-west of Scotland. The top National Trust attraction is Culzean Castle, only 20 km from Ayr.
Robert Burns was born in Ayr and an excellent visitor centre is a must.
There are many great golf courses in and around the town, with Open Championship venues of Royal Troon and Turnberry only a short drive away. Glasgow is less than one hour by train.

From England:
Travel north on M6 then onto the M74. You then have 2 options:
1. More scenic.
- Take the A75 at Gretna towards Dumfries, on to Castle Douglas.
- Take the A713 signposted Ayr, through New Galloway, Dalmellington and towards Ayr.
- At the roundabout on the A77, turn right onto the A77 for one mile.
- At the next roundabout, Holmston Roundabout, turn left onto Holmston Road.
2. Faster.
- Continue on the M74 until junction 12.
- Take the A70 through Douglas, Muirkirk, Cumnock and into Ayr.
- At the roundabout on the A77, go straight across, onto Holmston Road.
- Go along Holmston Road, for almost one mile, passing on left the cemetery and a school.
- The guest house is the next on the left with the red sign.
Directions from Prestwick Airport:
- On leaving the airport turn right for A77 Glasgow (not Ayr).
- Then follow signs for Ayr (a few roundabouts).
- You will head south on the A77, signposted Ayr and Stranraer.
- After a few miles you come to Whitletts roundabout - go straight ahead (do not turn right for Ayr).
- After one mile, the next roundabout is Holmston roundabout.
- Turn right for Ayr onto the A70.
- This is Holmston Road.
- Carry along for one mile, past the cemetery on the left, new flats and a little school.
- Coila is next on the left with a red sign outside.
- If you get lost, ask for the railway station - we are close by.
The rooms have been tastefully decorated. Some have easy chairs or a settee.
